One of the most popular experiences is visiting the desert and many people choose to do this on a half-day safari. The afternoon includes a session of desert driving in a 4x4, which is followed by a visit to a camp where guests can ride camels, try sandboarding, wear local dress, smoke shisha and sample local food.
In contrast to the giant desert dunes, Abu Dhabi also boasts a lively water culture with more than 200 islands and many active watersports available to try.
One of the latest and greatest attractions is
Yas Marina Circuit, home to the 2010 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. At this state-of-the-art track, visitors can experience the thrill of being a passenger in a two-seat Formula One car. Right next door is Ferrari World indoor theme park, which opened in November and will house the world's fastest
rollercoaster, which speeds to 240kmh.
At a slightly slower pace, the emirate is also home to world-class golfing facilities, including the Gary Player-designed Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, Kyle Philips-designed Yas Links and the
Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
